Scouting PT-KNZ crash site

PT-KNZ Piper PA-23 Aztec

Saturday Adventures – Scouting

Saturday 15th of April 2017 i was part of a scouting party, accompanied by owner of Caribbean Hiking Adventures (CHA) Richard Lewis and friends. (Brian Samuel and Archer)

As part of the hiking group i venture on scouts with Richard for hikes in the future.

Scouting is marking a trail to make it clear for hikers to easily follow to the destination.

Today we were accompanied by guide Archer, who took us to the crash site of the PT-KNZ piper airplane.

The Journey

Our journey started and finished at the Macqueripe Parking Facility, taking the trail behind the Zip line centre which took us around the bay to the lookout, a really magnificent view of the bay on the way up.

On reaching the lookout we proceeded to the end of the road past the old building to enter the trail to tucker valley.

A little more than an hour to get to the site, navigating steep hills and leafy terrain, this trail was very much worth it, due to sighting of monkeys in the trees.

Searching online we got details on the plane using the registration number here.

The occupants of the plane, on Feburary 1st 1976 ran into some bad weather on route to Brazil on a delivery run and crash landed into the northern range in Chagaramas.

Here are some pictures and footage of the wreckage.
